Misconception #2: You Only Need One Knitting Machine Let’s face it, folks. A knitting machine is not like a place to live. You don’t need a knitting machine like you need a place to live. Having said that, if you do decide to buy a knitting machine, you will never be able to knit whatever you want with one machine – unless you plan to knit everything within a certain weight of yarn - no more than the hand knitter can hand knit everything she (or he) wants to knit with one size of needles. Many hand knitters want to try to buy just one machine. Hand knitters make that (first) purchase a standard or fine gauge machine and then hand knit bulky yarns, or the few yarns that don’t feed easily into a knitting machine. However, the bulk of the machine knitters find they want two or more machines to handle all the different yarns and do all the different tricks. I have six machines. I haven’t found a yarn that I haven’t been able to knit or weave on at least one of my machines. You can get by with one machine, but the operative phrase is ‘get by’. |
