Welcome to the Machine Knit Website

Machine Knit - Your Machine Knitting Resource was born from the MACHKNIT (http://www.listhost.com/archives/machknit.html) email discussion list. Co-ListMom Terri Hagerty has helped take care of the list since 2001 and started the original website in 1997, shortly after the MACHKNIT (http://www.listhost.com/archives/machknit.html) list moved to its own server. Since that time we have added patterns, tips, classified ads, a picture gallery, and machine-knit email that is as spam free as it gets. Now, in our 3rd or 4th incarnation, we are adding even more items in a special premium content area that is sure to thrill the avid machine knitter along with a wiki , a dealer database, and news feeds so that you will never miss a news item.Terri and I are very excited about the improvements and we hope you will be too!

MACHKNIT is 10 Years Old!

Wow! Ten years have passed since the email discussion list MACHKNIT (http://www.listhost.com/archives/machknit.html) moved to a private server funded in part by donations from the list members. It's hard to remember there was a time when it was nearly impossible to get hosting for hobby lists, such as MACHKNIT. Back then you had to know someone at a university, or you had to pay very high fees for the amount of traffic the MACHKNIT list generated, which was upwards to 150 messages a day. Now anyone can start a list (or group as they're called other places), but not everyone can keep something going for 10 years with the level of success that MACHKNIT enjoys. As one of the listowners (and the original listowner), I can't take the credit for MACHKNIT lasting 10 years. MACHKNIT's longevity is due to having the best contributors to the craft of machine knitting active on the list and the members staying true to the charter of the list, which is providing great help and keeping the distracting chatter down to a minimum, which is all I ever wanted.

Common Misconceptions about Machine Knitting

In this series of articles, I will be sharing some of the common misconceptions about knitting machines. Since I don't sell knitting machines, I feel that the person who isn't a machine knitter can get some reasonably unbiased information to determine if machine knitting is right for them, because machine knitting is not for everyone, but it could be for you.Misconception #1: Machine Knitting is Cheating

If you look in the upper right hand corner of the website, you will see a place to make a donation. Running this site is not free. It takes many hours to format and design the site. You never HAVE to pay for 90% of the content on this site as much of the content has been gleaned from the many pearls of wisdom found on the MACHKNIT (http://www.listhost.com/archives/machknit.html) list through the 10 years it has been active, but if you find this site helpful please consider a donation to help defray the costs.
